Referral Month

Building a Business

Referral

Since our launch last year in April, we have been very pleased with the amount of chatter and referrals that we get from current customers. But, we are always looking for more. With all the grills that I see perched on decks when I am out and about, all I can think is that we should be in that spice rack or cupboard in that home.

Building a business isn’t an overnight thing. We know that and our strategy has always been to proceed with caution and make great calculated moves with launch dates, new recipes, and also how we approach social media. We’re excited about 2014, and we are asking for your help to spread the word.

Social Media Strategy

Our strategy has always been to “show you” what we are doing and how it impacts how the product works. We have accomplished this through pictures, videos, and of course, Google +, Facebook, Twitter, and our mailing list. Despite the fact that we have experienced this current Arctic chill, there are days in the Winter where the temps are suitable to get out and cook, and we are looking forward to getting to the smoker/grill and getting more content out there.

We also impress upon you to use our product inside the home when you are baking in the oven. Above the Coals goes beyond just the grill!

There’s more to just our online social media, so take it offline and tell someone about us!

Referral Month

referral

ATC has been off to a great start to 2014 with our first few orders being new customers and repeats, as well as a shipment to the U.K. We want more. We know that all 7 seasonings are great and some are favorites of some and some are not, but we are asking you to tell someone that you know that we exist. We want your neighbor to post on our social sites how much they love the product and have you think to yourself…”I sent him/her there!”

As a test, till the 31st of this month (January), Above the Coals BBQ is offering a free 3 ounces to anyone who refers a NEW customer to us and they complete a purchase of at least 10 oz or more. The same discounts apply for the referred person. They can use “frozen20” for 20% off site wide and “Like” us on Facebook or circle us on Google + to see the other incentives offered for the month.

When the NEW customer orders, please indicate at checkout who the person is who referred you and we’ll send them a free 3 ounces of one of the following. Please indicate a contact source for the person who sent you so we can get the 3 ounces to them that they like.

  • Signature Classic
  • 2 Alarm
  • The 617
  • Carolina Heat Wave
  • El Toro
  • Lavanero

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google + as well!

Thank you again for your ongoing support and we look forward to building this customer base together (while sending out referral seasoning!)

Instagram and the impact of social media

SMPWhere do you get your fix of Social Media?

You’re probably asking why a blog for a BBQ seasoning company would be asking YOU where you get your social media from…

Here’s why. We ask ourselves, how we can do better?  How can we get the word out about how great our product is? What is the best avenue to take when it comes to social media?

We have been involved in social media for a long time. (Twitter from the start, Facebook from the start, Google + right after they launched, Instagram (personally), and a few other well know sites.) But one of the things we’ve seen as we create new blends, cook, and photograph our fare for you all to see is the need for more pictures and video!

Let’s start with pictures. People love pictures and that’s where our next step will be. We have opened up a new Instagram account just for Above the Coals BBQ. Here is the link in case you would like to follow us, like, and comment on our pictures. ( www.instagram.com/abovethecoalsbbq ) We feel that the exposure (no pun intended) that pictures bring to current customers, potential customers, and their friends is invaluable. We are looking forward to showing you some of the things that we have done in the past, and going forward.

Do you engage in social media?

The answer isn’t that you are on Facebook and Twitter. but do you actually start or get involved in the conversations that interest you? What would give you the warm and fuzzy feeling to “Like and Share” something from Above the Coals? We love to be engaged with others when it comes to our brand and general conversations. I honestly think from the feedback that I get is that most people are getting an “overload” from social media because it’s the way most everything gets sold. The days of the brick and mortar are fading away to the Internet. Personally, I love both avenues to sell and promote our product. I hope you get a chance to answer some of these questions on our Facebook Page. I will be posting a link to this blog there and on Google +.

Pictures or video?

Are you more apt to engage when a picture is posted or a video? I have always leaned towards photography seeing where I love the art of taking a great picture (or so I try!), but still like the message that video can deliver. I’m looking forward to doing some more videos and opening up a new channel for them as well. Look for some additional videos on the “Video” tab here on the website in the coming days/months. Updates when they come out will be on all our social media spaces.

Instagram? YES!

We love that we can promote on Instagram and I hope you can get involved with us over there! Take a look today for some great info on a sale that is happening now so that you can take advantage some savings!

Comfort Food – Chili

Chili
Winter’s coming…

With the Winter on the horizon here in the Tri-State (New England) area and temperatures dropping, some comfort food is just what the Dr. ordered.  This past weekend we took the liberty as we always do when making chili to “eye” the seasonings that go into the pot and after getting the taste just right some flare was added to the final product.

Above the Coals BBQ Seasonings has spread the word and some samples of our new habanero based seasoning to select customers for review, and I have to concur that it really does liven up the flavor of many foods. As you can see in the picture to the left, some of the habanero seasoning (name TBD) was sprinkled on top (for the picture) and then mixed in.

It was……..stunning. Delicious. Like placing a few (…….) it was the delay in heat that got me. I could taste the flavors of a seasoned pot of chili, but received the delayed response from the heat that allowed me to enjoy the chili without overpowering it. Just delicious (But we are biased I suppose)

The second day is always better

I have heard for the longest time that many comfort foods are better the day after being made. I can only think of one that is better the day after. It’s chili. Don’t get me wrong, I love pizza and cold chicken wings the day after and even some chicken breast, but the flavor in those foods are the same.

When it comes to chili, the flavors have some time to marry and make the mixture much more robust. Today’s helping of yesterdays bounty was just that. Robust! Also, knowing that the flavors were going to be popping much more than yesterday, I went with the Above the Coals Signature Classic Seasoning for this helping. The pictures below do it no justice as to how great it really was.

Here are some helpful hints for reheating chili in the microwave:

  • Start with .45 seconds to a minute on the timer and remember to cover what you are heating!
  • Take out and stir well
  • Add an additional 1 minute in the microwave
  • Stir again
  • If you like cheese on your chili, add a layer and heat for 20-25 seconds and let it rest a few minutes before you burn your tongue.
  • Add Above the Coals BBQ Seasonings (Classic, 2 Alarm, Carolina, or the new habanero coming out soon) and ENJOY!

I also enjoy some sour cream with my chili, and who could forget some corn bread. (Make sure to add sour cream AFTER you heat it up, or you’ll be left with a liquid mess of sour cream on top your chili.

Below you can see today’s take, because the 2nd day is always better (for chili anyways!) Just awesome!

I’ll be getting my personal chili recipe together and producing a video for you in the coming months. It’s to die for…trust me!
